Styles of photography

Choosing a photographer is a big decision. It is important that you are not only confident with their skills as a professional, but also that you feel comfortable with them.

It is also a good idea to consider what styles of photography you particularly like, and whether these are offered by a prospective photographer.

Here is an overview of the styles and effects commonly used, all of which we can offer:

Reportage

Reportage photography is an increasingly popular style. The concept originated from photo-journalism where the subject leads the photographer, rather than the other way around. Reportage photography is considered a relaxed, informal and modern way of capturing people. Subjects are largely left to their own devices and photographed in a natural way, the aim being to produce a spontaneous, poignant image which captures the essence of the subject at a unique moment in time.

This style of photography also enables the photographer to work unobtrusively, allowing the couple and their guests to relax, unwind and enjoy themselves.

Traditional

Traditional photography can also be referred to as Classical photography. It involves composed, directed photographs of key moments, such as the signing of the register, and the must have group photographs perhaps of family and friends. These photographs tend to be formal, perhaps the type put into frames, to be kept as an important record of the day.

Black and white

Black and white photography has remained popular, understandably as it offers a beautiful, timeless and truly classic addition to your photographic collection.

Spot colour

This is when the colour within a photograph is removed, except for a specific detail which is left in colour. This effect emphasises that little detail within the picture, and enables your photographic collection to be more artistic and unique.

Sepia

Sepia photography is similar to Black and White. The colours within the photograph are removed, and a warm filter effect is added to the Black and White image. The result is a beautiful antique finish.

Addition of grain or noise

We can further add a classic, timeless effect to your pictures by adding digital noise or grain. This works particularly well in conjunction with Black and White or Sepia.
